CWMAMAN SENIOR CITIZENS - will return from the holiday break with a meeting tomorrow (Thursday), January 9 at the Community Centre. Membership fees are now due.

Everyone enjoyed the recent Christmas Tea;thanks to all who helped with the food;without you all, we could not have coped. Thanks also to the Mayor of Cwmmaman, Cllr Dafydd Wyn for attending, and to all members who donated gifts towards the raffle, and to Clwb Godre’r Mynydd Du for their kind donation.

GOOD WIN - Cwmaman United ended the old year with a bang, with a superb 6-1 win at Rhoose, goals from Liam Soroka (2), Kieran O’Brian (2), Andrew Bonomi and Matthew Tregembo. Cwm, who gave a Welsh League debut to local youngster Brieg Matthews, also welcomed back Grant Rees.

GARNANT FAMILY CENTRE - re-opens its doors at 25, Maesybedol after the Festive break, today (Wednesday), January 8.

CWMAMAN RAINBOWS AND BROWNIES - The groups are always on the lookout for new recruits. The Rainbows, for girls aged 5 to 7 years old, meet on Thursdays at the Community Centre, Glanaman (4.45pm) .

Cwmaman Brownies, for girls in the 7 to 10 age group, meanwhile meet on Thursdays also, at 6pm at Glanaman Guide/Scouts’ Hall.

CARNIVAL AND EVENTS COMMITTEE - Would like to express grateful thanks to local firms and businesses for their generous donations, making it possible for us to have Santa going around the Cwm handing out sweets to all the children; we were also able to distribute sweets to pupils at the school on the last day before breaking up. Many thanks also to T. R Jones for their kind loan of the lorry, and Glyn the driver for giving up his time to drive for us.

We thank everyone for their support in 2013 and hpe that will continue into 2014 with our various ventures, enabling us to provide a Carnival again this summer. We are grateful to the Carnival committee who work so hard to organise the events and giving up their time for the community. Happy New Year to you all.

TRAGIC LOSS - Deepest sympathy is expressed the family of Mr Roderick Morgan of Maes yr Haf, Tabernacle Road, Glanaman, who died tragically on December 17 at his home. Roderick was the much-loved son of the late Rees Henry and Nance Morgan, a dear brother of John, Huw, Anne and the late Barbara, and a fond Uncle and Great-Uncle.

The funeral took place on January 6 (Monday) at Llanelli Crematorium.

EXCELLENT EFFORT! - Following everyone’s dedication to the cause, the latest fund raising event for young Leukaemia sufferer Hannah Poole, aged 3 from Glanaman, again brought the community together as a large and supportive crowd gathered at Garnant Club on December 30 for a Charity Night for the Raising for Hannah appeal.

Organisers have announced that, following this latest excellent effort, the total collected to date stands at £1,899.71, with more expected to come in.
