PENSIONERS' CHAT - On Wednesday, November 20, due to illness to Anita, our vice chair, Mr Alan Graham presided over our meeting.

He gave the news that Daphe Thomas was now home from hospital, and our secretary Gwyn, was was steadily improving.

He stated that it would be Gwenda Williams' birthday on Friday. He conveyed the best wishes of all present, which was followed by a rousing Happy Birthday.

This week, November 27, we have our Christmas dinner in the Amman Centre. Members were advised to arrive at 12 noon, ready to dine at 12.30pm. Sixty-eight members are expected to attend, along with eight specially invited guests.

TRIP TO BATH - Amman Valley Mencap are hosting a Christmas shopping trip to Bath on Saturday, November 30. Book early to avoid disappointment. Cost is £15 per person, telephone 01269 597640 or pop in at the offices 8 College Street, Ammanford. The bus will leave outside the town hall at 8am.

CULTURAL AND SOCIAL CLUB - The ladies from the Ammanford club met for an excellent lunch reunion at the Mountain Gate Hotel on Thursday, October 24.

President Audrey Symons thanked Dawn Arnold for helping to organise the event.

A minutes' silence was observed for six lady members who had passed away during the year.

DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY - Congratulations to Audrey and Cyril Witts of Parc Bwtrimawr, Betws, who have just celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

The well-known couple received their message from the Queen this week.

All in the area will know Audrey from her singing years as 'Audrey Squires'.

She was always ready to lend a helping hand to any local charity who asked her to sing at their event.

We wish them both well.

PROBUS CLUB - At the meeting on November 14 at the indoor bowls club it was decided unanimously that a donation be made from club funds to the Philippines disaster appeal.

In recent meetings the Probus club has experienced (vicariously) the terrors of an Antarctic ice storm at sea and this time we learned something of the rigours of climbing Kilimanjaro with Ian Evans of Pontardulais. Ian gave an enthralling, vivid account of his climb with superb photography of Africa's highest peak at 19,000 foot including the wildlife and flora there. Such a memorable talk deserved the congratulations of all members.

AMMANFORD TWINNING - The association recently held their annual general meeting. The following officials were appointed. Chairman: Mr Graham Griffiths; Treasurer: Miss Wendy Evans; Secretary: Mrs Cynthia Fuller; Press Officer: Mr Gerry Williams.

The association will be holding a Christmas cake stall in Ammanford market on December 20, 8.30am.
