PLANS to convert a plot of agricultural land into bike trails and a car parking space in Llandeilo have been approved.

The plans were submitted to Carmarthenshire County Council by Michael Evans of MTB Uplift Wales Ltd in relation to a 3,650 square metre plot of land at Hafod Wen in Llansawel, Llandeilo.

The work began on June 1, 2022 to turn the land – which is currently agricultural land and existing brownfield land – changed to tourism use into bike tracks, parking area with extensive tree planting and landscaping, improvements to vehicle access and other associated works.

The tracks have already been established on the land and so the main part of the application was for the associated works including the parking area and tree planting. The aim of the plans is to provide a safe, fun environment to allow those interested in mountain biking to explore the rural area and provide a ‘much-needed’ visitor attraction in the local area.

The bike tracks will be created by shaping the soil and a top stone dressing, using the natural topography of the land. The banks for the tracks will also be created in the same manner.

The tree planting would see a range of species planted.

On January 23, the council approved the plans with a number of conditions including the plans must be in line with the approved plans and have begun on the specified date. There are also conditions including vehicle access, parking and the traffic management plans.
