Ammanford teenager Adrian Vivian Jones was today (Thursday) found guilty of the brutal murder of Kelly Hyde.

After almost ten hours of deliberations, the jury returned a majority verdict of ten to two that the 17-year-old had battered 24-year-old Kelly to death with a 2.5kg weight near the bridlepath off Pantyfynnon's Mill Terrace last September.

The jury accepted that Jones – who had remained anonymous throughout the trial until the Guardian successfully lodged an appeal to lift the order banning publication of his identity – had watched Kelly walk past his then home at Mill Terrace before following her to the bridlepath and attacking her.

Prosecutors believe that Jones – who was 16 at the the time of murder – then went home to change his clothes before returning to the scene to administer what may have been the fatal blows.

Members of Kelly's family sobbed as the decision was announced.

Judge Nigel Davies adjourned sentencing until 10.15am tomorrow (Friday) but warned Jones that he would face "a very lengthy sentence indeed".

A four page murder special of The Guardian will be on sale at selected outlets, including: Tycroes Supermarket, West End Newsagents, Tesco Ammanford, Co-op Ammanford, A-Z Stores, Quay Street Newsagents and Arcade Newsagents.
