A former boyfriend of the mother of an Ammanford teenager accused of the murder of Kelly Hyde says the defendant asked him if thought the police would catch her killer, a jury heard today.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the defendant, told him he was sure the culprit would be found.

He told Swansea crown court that he thought forensics were so good that the science would lead police to the murderer.

The ex-boyfriend told the jury today he had seen the 17 year old using the weights as a bodybuilder would.

He said that after Kelly's body was found close to a bridal path leading from Mill Terrace the discovery was the "talk of the neighbourhood." But the youth made no mention of having been on the path the day she disappeared.

But he did ask about the investigation, and whether the police would find the killer.

The trial resumes on Tuesday.

The youth denies murder.
