THE Kelly Hyde murder trial due to start at Swansea Crown Court on Monday is expected to last five weeks, the Guardian has been told.
A 16-year-old youth charged with killing the trainee hairdresser has been held at a Young Offenders' Institution since October to enable Crown prosecutors to prepare their case.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested 48 hours after Ms Hyde's badly-beaten body was found in woodland at Pantyffynnon on September 30. The 24-year-old had been walking her pet dog Scrappy back to her New Road home after dropping her car off at Brynteg Garage for a service when she was attacked.
Kelly was the daughter of Andy and Barbara Hyde, of Cwmgwili. She left two sisters and a brother.
Two months after her death a memorial concert was held at the Aman Centre, with proceeds going to animal charities.
