A COLLECTION of more than 40 paintings by a former principal of Wycombe School of Art will be under one roof for the first time in over half a century.

Wycombe Museum, Priory Avenue, High Wycombe, is exhibiting the paintings and paying tribute to Walter Stamps who inspired generations of budding young artists at the school from 1911 to 1938.

Fiona Chandler, spokesman for the museum, said: "Walter Stamps was a well known artist in his own right and regularly staged displays of his work, both alone and as a member of the Bucks Art Society."

The exhibition will run from tomorrow until August 26, and illustrate Walter Stamps' favourite artistic themes over the course of his life. The three main sets of paintings are views of High Wycombe and the local area, views of Cornwall, where Stamps went every year and views of Worthing, where he lived from 1952 until his death in 1964.
