WORRIED residents turned out in force to demand that councillors vote against a housing development proposed for their street.

More than 50 people packed into a meeting of Chesham Town Council's planning and general purposes committee last Monday to object to the construction of four flats and 20 houses in Great Hivings, Chesham.

John Tamplin, a spokesman for the residents, told councillors: "We've got about 49 people here tonight you must realise the depth of concern over this."

The site is currently occupied by five detached bungalows but Linden Homes has been is discussion with Chiltern District Council over redeveloping the site.

But residents listed a catalogue of concerns saying that the plans would overdevelop the site and cause access and parking problems.

Residents also said the proposed development would not fit into the present street scene.

Chesham Town Council voted to object to the plans after agreeing with residents' concerns.

The proposed development will be discussed at Chiltern District Council on Thursday. The plans have been recommended by officers for approval.

Gary Durden, senior land manager for Linden Homes, said the proposals would be going to Chiltern District Council and a decision would be made from there.
