COUNCILLORS fear a plan to build stables on a farm could be dangerous as horse riders would be at risk from nearby traffic.

The planning application for Woodrow Farm in Woodrow, near Amersham by Mr and Mrs Tillbrook, proposes to use an agricultural building on the farm to provide 16 stables, a tack room, feed store and office for liveries.

Although the application was recommended for approval by Amersham town councillors at the planning and footpaths committee on Monday, they said that the entrance and exit to the farm, which is on Whielden Gate, in Woodrow, would be too dangerous for horse riders and have called for road managers to look at the site.

Councillor Davida Allen (Lib Dem, Amersham Town) said: "This needs to be looked at quite carefully. By the Queens Head pub there have been fatalities. That junction is a pain."

Commenting on the road she said: "Lethal is not the word. There are flowers continuously there."

However, councillor Brian Guest, the Mayor of Amersham, said they were concerned about the site as it was unclear what they would be using the stables for.

He said after the meeting: "It is a question of whether there will be horse riders, or if they (the horses) will be boxed.

"If they are boxed that would be more of a traffic problem. We don't know what the intention is. Is it going to be a stud farm or what?"

The application will now be heard by Chiltern District Council.
