SUE Aperghis had a win-double as Wycombe Phoenix ladies battled for points in their second league fixture of the season.

She used her knowledge of the home Handy Cross track to notch comfortable victories in the 800m and 3,000m.

She also claimed second place in the 400m hurdles, before teaming up with Liz Rzewuski, Lucy Milson Watkins and captain Leanne O'Callaghan as Phoenix took second in the 4x400m relay behind match winners Belgrave.

Although Wycombe weren't good enough to win the event, there were a number of personal bests achieved. Judy Turton cleared 3.10m to comfortably win the pole vault.

Claire Penzer was another winner breaking the tape first in the under-15 75m hurdles while Amy Vowles and Helen Leigh-Dugmore both smashed their personal bests to place second in the A and B string 400m respectively.

Other notable achievements came from Leanne O'Callaghan who dead-heated with Belgrave's Kim Carlson in the A string 100m, and Lisa Oakleigh who beat her best to take the 200m B string.

Elsewhere, Phoenix athletes Laura Patterson and Nicola Sanders competed at the Aqua Pura International. Patterson cleared 3.50cm in the pole vault to finish fourth and Sanders also finished fourth in the 400m hurdles before also running a strong leg of the 4x400m relay to help her team finish fourth.
