WYCOMBE Leisure, which runs sports centres in High Wycombe and Marlow for Wycombe District Council, is celebrating its success after winning a top training award.

The company won the Employer of the Year Award in the Uxbridge College Business Development Unit's Workplace Training Awards.

The not-for-profit organisation has an annual turnover of £4.5 million and employs around 420 full and part-time staff.

Rick Durrant, managing director of Wycombe Leisure, said: "We are totally committed to training through National Vocational Qualification. We have an extremely good relationship with the college and this form of recruitment and training really does work."

Fitness instruction Andy Brownsell, of Telford Way, High Wycombe, a former Bucks county long jumper and 100-metre sprinter, won a merit award for outstanding work in achieving NVQ in sport and recreation.

Keith Morgan, 46, of Great Win Close, High Wycombe, a machine setter and operator at Martin Baker Aircraft Ltd in Denham won the engineering NVC award.

He said: "This is my first engineering qualification as such and it is brilliant."
