RESIDENTS boycotted a meeting arranged by fast food chain McDonald's, claiming the chain is acting too confidently about plans for a drive-through in Loudwater.

The restaurant chain informed Loudwater residents, through fliers placed through their letterboxes, that a meeting would be held on Friday at Micklefield Community Centre to discuss plans to put a restaurant on the site of The White Blackbird, London Road.

But Julie Hanif, 38, from Burfield Road, was one of a number who decided to boycott the meeting.

Mrs Hanif said: "We got a small note posted through our letterbox on Wednesday night for the meeting in work time on Friday, from 3pm until 6.30pm.

"They wanted to talk to us individually as opposed to as a group. They seem to be taking matters into their own hands to a certain extent."

Sandra Holt, from Old Forge Road, said: "It is causing arguments between couples down here. We picked this place because it was a quiet little village. We don't want this at our age."

A spokesman for McDonald's said the meeting was attended by around 100 people.

"Following feedback we have decided to hold another meeting, this time in Loudwater, so that any residents who were unable to attend are able to do so."
