RACER Dave Johnson finished first veteran and second overall in the Oxford City Cycling Club 29 mile hilly circuit time trial held in bitter conditions on Sunday morning.

The High Wycombe Cycling Club rider is now beginning to show the form that won him the National Veterans Circuit Championship title last season.

He clocked one hour, nine minutes, 58 seconds over the tough Oxfordshire course to finish top veteran and equal second overall with former Wycombe rider James Mahoney (Team Clean/Freshstart).

The winner was Oxford's Nick Gardiner.

Elsewhere, Paul Addy and junior rider Simon Henley carried the Wycombe colours in a field of 80 riders at Reading Cycling Club's 50 mile road race.

There, Chris Parlett (Gemini B.C. ) that took the honours from Aylesbury CC rider Trevor David by three seconds.

Addy clipped off from the front of the bunch to take third place with Henley, the youngest rider in the race, taking a well earned 15th spot.
