IT was back in April of this year, that my letters appeared in both the Bucks Free Press and The South Bucks Star informing readers, especially ex-pupils and teaching staff, of the festival being planned at Hatters Lane School, High Wycombe on Saturday, July 14 from noon to 4pm.

Since my letters appeared and articles by Margaret Smith of the BFP, plus my half an hour broadcast on local radio, elevenSEVENTY, the school has been inundated with telephone callers, and ex-pupils and ex-staff calling at the school with memorabilia to display on the day.

Quite frankly the festival committee and the matron, who is the co-ordinator, cannot keep up with the demand for information.

There will be plenty of food and drink, even a beer tent annd there will be a children's merry-go-round, tug-of-war, and a 'fun factory', a candy floss stand.

Also, there will be a whole range of other and varied activities, too many to mention here, but there will be a balloon race with a £25 prize for the balloon that travels the longest distance

At about noon, the Mayor of High Wycombe and the Lady Mayoress, Sue Vickery, will be arriving in a Rolls Royce.

All ex-head teachers have been or are being invited, ex-teaching staff, and all ex-pupils.

We have had one letter from an ex-pupil who attended the school when it first opened on September 2, 1940.

There will be main control desk for anyone needing information. There are to be guided tours of the school.

This should cause some nostalgia, as will the memento tent.

All staff at the school, it is hoped, will attend and ex-PTA members.

Entrance will be free and there will be organised car parking.

Anyone who wishes to find out more can contact the school on 01494 529866 and ask for matron (Dzidzia Przybys) and she will assist in any way possible.

The festival committee are praying for a sunny day but precautions are in hand if it rains.

The school will reopen under its new name of The Highcrest Community School later in the year.
