RESIDENTS in Marlow Bottom have launched a campaign to get people to use their local chemist or face the fact they may lose it.

Raji Amlani, owner of Marlow Bottom Pharmacy, warned she faced losing her business following a High Court ruling backing an Office of Fair Trading case against drug companies ending the resale price maintenance system.

The system allowed manufacturers to fix the prices of many over-the-counter medicines.

Prices of many drugs were cut by as much as half by many supermarkets as soon as the ruling was made, leaving Mrs Amlani afraid she could not compete.

Mike Williams, from Marlow Bottom Residents' Association, said: "A group of us got together and said that the general public does not understand the implications of what has happened.

He said they were not pressurising people to use the chemist.

"They can make their own minds up. If they want to change their shopping habits then that is fine. The interesting thing is that people have been coming to us saying that they did not understand the implications of what has happened."
