THE sun is out provoking the traditional British habits of the summer.

Firstly, everyone has to rush to the coast the moment there's the hint of hot weather, creating vast traffic jams and a mass scrum for the last spot on the beach.

Next comes the all-too-familiar complaint of it being too hot and 'why can it not be a bit cooler?'

Let's enjoy the sunshine for once. It's hotter than Hawaii, sunnier than Spain, better than Bondi Beach, so it would be good if everyone could put aside complaints and revel in the joys of summertime.

Having said that, let's be careful about it. Unfortunately, too many people think they are immune from heatstroke, dehydration and even skin cancer because they are sunbathing in Britain.

This is the wrong attitude to take. On holidays, sun-cream would be used and it should also be the case here in Wycombe.

Cool drinks, especially water, should also be drunk regularly.

People are often scornful of scientists' warnings of the consequences of staying outside too long but they are the experts and their advice should be heeded.
