THE scheme to make a village green into a one way system has been shelved because of a council re-jig.

Residents heard at a Community Association meeting on Monday that the controversial traffic plan on The Green, Wooburn Green, has been put on ice for the time being.

Chairman Ted Samson said: "It's all on hold for the moment because the councils are changing. There will be a different chairman for different committees responsible for different things."

Both Wycombe district and Buckinghamshire County Councils are changing the way they operate as part of the Government's plan to modernise local authorities.

The new cabinet system, which means there will be eight top councillors one leader, one deputy and six other responsible for different sections, has been in operation at the county council since November last year and is set to start at the district council in May.

Mr Samson added: "Whatever is going on at Wooburn Green is all on hold. The next thing will be a public consultation which should take place in March.

"The scheme has been developed for some time and it was the county councils preferred scheme of all the things put forward."

The proposal has been a talking point among residents and councillors for more than two years.

The plan includes zebra crossings, speed reduction tables, widened pavement, relocated bus stop and the creation of a one way system around The Green.
