PLANS to put more CCTV cameras in High Wycombe moved a stop closer after the idea was shortlisted for approval by the Government.
Wycombe District Council, in partnership with Community Safety, could be in line for £173,000 of Government cash to extend the CCTV area in the Castlefield and Park Parade, Hazlemere, area.
Home Office Minister Charles Clarke said: "Crime in England is down and is continuing to fall. But there is much more to be done to bring crime down further."
He added: "CCTV can make a real contribution to this task. Home Office research and police experience tells us that properly managed schemes, as part of a local crime reduction strategy, get the best results."
District councillors Nigel Vickery (Lab, Booker and Castlefield) and Ted Collins (Lab, Booker and Castlefield) had a meeting with a CCTV consultant to discuss the options.
"We support the scheme and so do the local residents," explained Cllr Collins.
He added: "Nigel and I met with a consultant who gives advice on CCTV systems and from talking with him the proposed sum will be more than enough."
