TWO former postmen swapped a village in Bucks for the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for charity.
David Willmott, of Hazlemere, and his friend David Church donned their hiking boots and weather proof clobber to scale the huge mountain. They braved African rainstorms and altitude sickness to climb the famous peak for Sargent Cancer Care for Children.
"We got used to pounding the hills of Marlow together on our rounds," said David, "But at over 22,000ft, Kilimanjaro is something else. It was like a Boy's Own adventure."
The pair managed to raise £2,500 for the charity during the seven day climb after being sponsored by friends, family and Abbey National bank.
The money raised will be used to help children from the Thames Valley who are undergoing cancer treatment at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
David added: "We particularly wanted to help these kiddies as they have their own mountain to climb everyday."
Sargent Cancer Care for Children funds more than 90 care professionals at hospitals across the UK.
