COUNCILLORS have given the go-ahead for a car park for teachers at Sir William Borlase's School despite opposition from nearby residents.
Residents claimed, at a meeting of Wycombe District Council's planning applications panel on Wednesday, that the car park would lead to safety problems.
Duncan Purves, who lives opposite the school and spoke at the meeting on behalf of the residents, said the plan would increase the amount of traffic going in and out of the school, in West Street, Marlow.
He said: "This is dangerous. There have been fatal accidents adjacent to my house and I urge councillors to visit the site and see what it is like at peak times."
However, councillors granted planning permission for the construction of the new car park, opposite the school chapel, with 12 spaces.
Dr Peter Holding, headteacher at the school, spoke at the meeting saying the plan would in fact increase safety.
He said: "The site has been inspected on many occasions and is the only acceptable option. I agree that there is a safety issue but the result of this will increase pupil safety and there will be no change in traffic."
