CAN anyone out there tell me what food is safe to eat these days?
Mrs Editor's Chair is in despair after reading in a national paper at the weekend that our favourite fish, salmon, contains loads of dioxins when farmed.
Other types of farmed and even wild fish also contain higher than acceptable levels of dioxins, the by-products of insecticides used to fight disease and of environmental pollution.
Then, of course, we have had the mad cow and foot and mouth diseases which are enough to put anyone off eating meat forever.
Meanwhile, vegetables are full of pesticides.
You can, of course, eat organic crops, but these are more expensive and can, in theory, be full of insects.
Every time we seem to find a safe food, a new warning comes out to tell us of its dangers.
There's nothing left to eat, I fear (apart from Karen the sandwich lady's carrot cakes).
Help. I'm confused.
