YOUNGSTERS kicked off their summer activities at a session with members of Wycombe Wanderers' training squad.

The coaches encouraged children from nearby Cedar Park to join in with their training at the former Raans School site in Amersham.

Buckinghamshire County Council had said the site was out of bounds as they have decided to sell it, but Amersham Town Council said it could be re-opened for the summer holidays so children did not have to play in the streets.

Chiltern District Council has first refusal on whether it wants to buy the field from the county council, but the residents of Cedar Park are also intent on clubbing together to buy the park for community use.

A county council spokesman said: "It is still with Chiltern District Council and no agreement has been made. It will be a couple of months yet until it's agreed."

He added: "I spoke to one of the residents and the way it will work is that Chiltern District Council will have first shout, and there will be every effort to consider the proposal from the residents."
