FORMER team-mates of Louise Joiner, who took her own life last year, battled it out in a cup game created in her memory.

More than 200 spectators turned out to watch Chesham United Ladies' and Denham United Ladies football clubs draw 3-3 on Sunday at Denham's home ground, off the A4020, Denham.

Louise, who had played for both teams, shot herself last October leaving a text message on her mobile phone reading: "I hope you can forgive me. I love you all." She was 18-years-old.

Players bowed their heads in the centre circle and kept a minutes' silence in tribute to the popular goal-keeper before kick-off.

Lisa Welling, chairman of Chesham United Ladies' FC, said the match was a fitting tribute to Louise.

She added: "Lots of people turned up. We were going to play extra time penalties but between us we said we'd share the cup for the first year. It was a remembrance thing."

Louise, who lived in Clarendon Road, High Wycombe, joined the Denham team from Chesham Ladies' last summer and built up a reputation as a player who gave it her all.

Now both teams will play for the Louise Joiner Memorial Cup every year with any money raised going to kids' football and athletics groups.

The special cup, which was presented by Louise's sister Michelle.
