A WALL by a road which children use to walk to school could collapse at any moment, according to residents.

The wall, around a house on the corner of Peterborough Avenue and Totteridge Road, High Wycombe, has developed cracks in it and a number of bricks can be pushed off the top.

Residents have asked Wycombe District Council to act after claiming the owner of the house has failed to do anything to sort the problem out.

Newsagent Ketan Rana, of Wycombe News, Totteridge Road, High Wycombe, said the council had done nothing.

He said: "Kids pass this road every single day in the morning and we don't know when the wall might go."

Mr Rana said that the pointing of the wall had gone and it seemed the bricks in the wall had been pushed out by a tree in the garden of the same house.

He added: "I won't mind if he pulls the bricks back into the garden. It's better to have an eyesore than it collapsing on someone."

But a spokesman for Wycombe District Council said the wall has been examined and is not imminently dangerous. However. the council is monitoring the situation on a weekly basis.

He added: "If the wall becomes dangerous, the council could ask its contractors to make the wall safe or cordon off the area but the onus is on the owner to take action to make the wall safe."

The spokesman said the council is having difficulty tracking down the owner of the wall and the associated property.

The owner of the house was unavailable for comment.
