MARLOW town councillor Frank Sweatman has attacked a wish list from his own council describing it as unrealistic and warning it would not be taken seriously.

The 20-page document is a statement of the needs and issues of the council looking several years ahead and was requested by Wycombe District Council.

The Conservative councillor's comments provoked an angry response from Cllr Maurice Oram (Lib Dem) at a Marlow Town Council meeting on Tuesday.

Cllr Oram accused his colleague, also a district and county councillor, of rubbishing the 20 page document.

He said: "I am surprised and disappointed at Cllr Sweatman for rubbishing it."

He added: "Unless we come up with some views of how we want to see Marlow develop we will have no strategic influence at all."

The list states that the town council would like to be involved with the future of housing, leisure facilities and employment in the town.

Cllr Sweatman said at the meeting on Tuesday night: "Let's keep our wish list a little more realistic and we stand a chance of getting it.

"It needs to be more realistic and needs some indication of what some of these aims and targets could cost."

Five councillors voted in support of the document and two abstained.
