WYCOMBE District Swimmers continued their run of success in the Berks and South Bucks County Championships with wins in three championship events at Maidenhead last Saturday.

Eighteen-year-old Simon Burnett claimed the open 50 metre backstroke and 200m individual medley, while Francesca Wright, 15, took the ladies open 100m freestyle.

The club claimed 16 medals in all eight gold, six silver and two bronze.

Burnett notched his third and fourth golds for the 17-plus age group in both his championship events. Alex Vine (junior and 16-years 200m individual medley) and James Crawford (13-years 50m backstroke) took the other golds.

Silvers went to Crawford, Vine, Wright and Daniel Gomme.

Wycombe enjoyed more success when two of their masters squads competed at the Bracknell Masters Meet.

Kirsti Robertson (30-34 years) won the 100m individual medley, the 100m butterfly and the 50m butterfly, while team-mate Brian Johnson (40-44 years) won the 100m individual medley and backstroke.

Another 11 medals were won by Amersham swimmers in the short evening only programme on Saturday comprising just three disciplines of swimming.

In the hotly competitive 100m freestyle for ladies, Jane Stalker, despite suffering from the effects of a virus reached the final as the fastest qualifier from the heats.

This won her the gold as best junior U17 and the championship trophy. She had already won gold in the 16 age group competition as well.

But in the final, she lost by the length of a fingernail in the ladies senior championship, to take silver.

Fellow clubmate and rising Amersham star, Chloe Osborne won her 15 year group gold and took bronze in the junior championship.

There was also a gold for Andrea Poore in the 12-year group.

The club's results so far are way ahead of the performances in the county this time last year despite having no home pool while Amersham is being refurbished.

They are hoping to return there shortly but in the meantime are urgently seeking a sponsor to help cover the increased costs of training. New members are also welcome.
