THE top two Premier Division clubs in the Wycombe and District League could not be separated when they met last week, with the tie between Den Club and Allied Worldwide finishing 5-5.

But leaders Den still look on course to take the championship title, with the chasing Allied their only real threat.

Den drew first blood as John Cooper saved two match points on the way to beating Chris Haines in the opening match.

Wycombe number one Danny Baxter brought the match level, recovering from one set down to beat Mike Atkinson.

Den then went 2-1 up with Nick Hansell winning a tight three-setter against Haines and they extended their advantage further with Atkinson beating Tim Heaps in three legs after dropping the first.

Baxter kept Allied Worldwide in the match, though, demolishing Cooper to make it 3-2 at the half way stage.

Nick Hansell proved too steady for Heaps in the sixth match and restored Den's advantage to 4-2. But Allied refused to lie down and the division's best doubles pair of Baxter and Haines combined to beat Cooper and Atkinson and make it 4-3.

It was soon 5-3 though with Atkinson beating the luckless Haines in three sets to ensure Den got at least a draw. A draw it was as Baxter proved his class, narrowly beating Hansell in three sets. Heaps won the final game against Cooper in another tight match.

Elsewhere, in the Premier League, Apollo A beat two-man Kestrels 6-4, Chalfont A thrashed Chalfont B 9-1, and Hazlemere A thumped Speen A 10-0.
