THE Packhorse pub in Gerrards Cross has undergone a £500,000 transformation to give it a more friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

The pub in West Common Road, Gerrards Cross, reopened last month after 17 weeks of work to give it more creature comforts.

Pub manager Grant Maguire said it was decided to give the pub a new look after a survey showed locals were looking for more of a 'home-from-home' than a place where they simply propped up the bar.

Mr Maguire said: "The survey shows that 86 per cent of those interviewed like to escape the TV and get out of the house.

"They want somewhere to relax and chat with nooks and crannies, comfy chairs and sofas.

"That's what we believe we have achieved with our leather sofas and armchairs for people to sink into, plus real fires blazing away for that home-from-home atmosphere."

He added that the 25 staff at the pub have undergone rigorous training to ensure a high standard of service and a provide a friendly atmosphere.

The new-look pub also features a newly-landscaped terrace, improved menu and a regular quiz night on Tuesdays.
