THE family of Danny Harrison who was beaten unconscious while a gang of six thugs rifled through his pockets have hit out at police.

The 28-year-old ended up with injuries including two black eyes and extensive facial bruising.

His family are angry at the lack of police response to the frenzied attack .

Danny had been walking home from a quiet night out in Booker on May 5 at around midnight when the youths came up behind him and swung a police cone at the back of his head, knocking him to the ground.

His mother, Karen, from Sunters Wood Close, in Booker, High Wycombe, said the only thing that stopped the terrifying attack from turning into a complete bloodbath was a motorist, who pulled up and scared the youths off.

She said: "It was so upsetting because I know my son would not hurt a fly. They just crept up behind him and knocked him to the floor where he lay unconscious.

"We had to take him to Wycombe Hospital where he had to have an X-ray to see the extent of the damage and then I phoned the police."

But she claims she was told that a police officer would not be coming out to see her son that night or take a statement and instead she would have to bring him into High Wycombe Police Station the following day.

Mrs Harrison said her husband, Geoff, went with Danny to make a formal complaint but they have still not heard anything after three weeks of waiting.

She said: "It just doesn't do anything for the image of the police.

"I have lived in Booker for most of my life but in the last several years we have been burgled five times, had our car broken into as well as our garage and shed.

"But now it has come to a member of the family and this is the last straw. Danny is a sweet person and this has left him feeling traumatised and he doesn't even feel comfortable going out in the neighbourhood he lives in."

Kate Spark, police spokesman, said: "We are sorry Mrs Harrison and her son are disappointed with our response. We will be examining the circumstances of our investigation."
