THAMES Valley Chamber of Commerce & Industry has appointed Bill McCardle as its new policy and external communications manager.

He replaces Andy Corrigan who left the chamber in February to work in London.

Bill joined the chamber as a training manager in 1990 after five years with the Manpower Services Commission.

In 1995 he was appointed director of the Oxfordshire Chamber of Commerce & Industry, part of the Thames Valley chamber.

Since May 1999 he has been working across Bucks, Berks and Oxon as the chamber's general manager, responsible for seven offices.

Frank Stroud, chamber chief executive, said: "Bill is already well known across the region for his work in support of local area committees and focus groups of the chamber and for the lead he has taken in representing key local issues on behalf of our members."

Bill said: "The chamber is unique in representing the range of business we cover. I want to ensure that the voice of business is heard and listened to wherever decisions are taken on issues - including transport, planning, crime and skills - which affect our members."
