NEW ideas will be looked at to improve the state of playing fields where the remains of pre-fab houses were dumped.

Princes Risborough Town Council chairman John Coombs said he is looking at forming a group made up of different sections of the community to look at how the Earle-Mitchell field can be improved.

There have been years of complaints about the area near Salisbury Close, which is owned by the town council.

The remnants of pulled-down pre-fabricated buildings were once dumped there. Town councillors tried to solve the problem some years ago by putting topsoil on it, from ground dug up by British Rail. But residents of Salisbury Close refused to allow trucks through to dump the soil, arguing vehicles would create too much noise and disruption.

John Benyon, a neighbourhood watch co-ordinator, said the town council has not done enough.

He said: "It was only mowed for the first time this year a few weeks ago. Wades Park is always given a priority."

Mr Benyon sympathised with the council but said more must be done.
