I'M sick to death of the nanny state. You can't do anything these days without Big Brother watching you on 165 CCTV cameras.

As each of our personal liberties are eroded away I get more and more irate. Now it looks like one of the most simple pleasures in life is about to go down the plughole.

How many people enjoy a picnic with a few beers or a glass of wine on a warm summers night in the park.

Well, if you do, make the most of this year's seasonal weather because it could be your last chance.

Councillors have decided to support a by-law which would ban drinking in certain public places in the Wycombe district.

They have yet to tell us where so there is still a chance to tell them where we should be allowed to enjoy a beer in public.

I find it ridiculous that you could end up breaking a law for drinking responsibly in somewhere such as a park.

As for enforcing these regulations, haven't the police got far better things to do with their time, such as catching proper criminals?

I can imagine many officers would be embarrassed if they had to tell people enjoying a family picnic to refrain from drinking a glass of wine.

Or are people going to have to stock up on hundreds of brown bags to hide the fact they fancy a tipple?

The council and police say they support these by-laws as it will help rid the town of hardcore alcoholics who are putting people off coming to Wycombe.

It won't solve the problem.

These people need proper help not the threat of possible fines, which will do nothing to stop them from taking their drink somewhere away from the designated areas.
