WONDER mothers landed a nice surprise gift after their children won a Mother's Day competition.

Eight happy youngsters won for their mums £25 gift vouchers for Notcutts Garden Centre, in Booker, High Wycombe, and three of them were presented with their present last week.

Ten-year-old Hollie Pickering, nine-year-old Thomas Green and 12-year-old Thomas Rawlings, made it up to the garden centre in time for Mother's Day last Sunday to collect the vouchers.

Notcutts asked children to describe why their mum was the best in the world and the most outstanding responses were picked to win the vouchers.

James Lilley, Notcutts garden centre manager, said: "Children say things how they see them and the entries were very difficult to choose between.

"Children entered through schools, individually on our entry forms and even by e-mail, showing that the younger generation knows how to put its message across when it comes to top mums."

Local schools used the competition as an opportunity for children to practice their literacy and technology skills as entries were sent by e-mail, as well as in letters, cards, poems and pictures.

Some of the winning entries described their mums in shining terms which included: "She is kind and caring and always puts us first; she's always there for me when I need her; she always has a smile on her face and always happy; and she is always there."
