A CHAMBER of commerce has unveiled plans for a £250,000 CCTV system.

The fully monitored system has been proposed by the Beaconsfield Chamber of Commerce and is nearly double the chamber's previous application to the Home Office of £113,000 for an unmonitored service.

The more sophisticated system is a reaction to perceived rising crime rates in the town, and Beaconsfield town councillor Teresa Rosell (Con, North Ward) said: "With the money currently allocated we could get cameras and what we had originally planned, but given the worsening crime rate in the town we will try to go for something better."

Adrian Busby, president of the Beaconsfield Chamber of Commerce, said the organisation had taken the decision to review the scope and coverage of the cameras as a reaction to an increase in car crime.

Sgt Gerry Lister of Beaconsfield police said: "If CCTV is not monitored then it's not really an effective deterrent to use against criminals.

"This is the best option for Beaconsfield."
