A NURSE has been arrested and questioned by police over the deaths of four children on a ward at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough.
At a press conference yesterday, chief executive of the hospital trust Margaret Edwards said consultant paediatricians had come to her on Monday about the unexpected deaths on Ward 24, the children's medical ward, which took place between July 2000 and this month.
Ms Edwards then contacted Thames Valley Police.
Det Supt Steve Morrison confirmed that the female nurse, one of 40 members of staff on the 30-bed ward, had been arrested on Wednesday but has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
A helpline has been set up for concerned relatives on 0845 4647
