POLICE have revealed that Superintendent Charles Nelson will be standing down as Chiltern Vale commander under a cloud of allegations made by staff.

Superintendent Nelson had offered to take three weeks annual leave at the beginning of the month in the light of allegations made by staff about his 'actions'.

But Thames Valley Police has confirmed that the Commander of Chiltern Vale Police, which covers the South Bucks area, will not be returning to his post.

And the force will soon be looking for a permanent replacement, even though he had only been in post in High Wycombe

for two weeks. The allegations are still being investigated and, although police will still not confirm the exact nature of them, they did say a number of staff were involved.

Janet Malcolmson, senior press officer, told the Free Press: "Charles Nelson is not coming back but this doesn't pre-judge the outcome of the inquiry."

"They decided to put someone else in there as they do sometimes, although two weeks is quite a short time to be in the post."

Superintendent Kathy Govier has taken up the position temporarily but the post is expected to be advertised both internally and externally on a national level.

Former Superintendent Rob Beckley, who was Commander of Chiltern Vale before Mr Nelson, said: "The allegations made were disciplinary in nature and there is a catalogue of them."

"The decision for him to leave has been made by the force and they are looking for someone else to take up the post, but they will be big shoes to fill."
