ALLIED Worldwide's Danny Baxter retained his champions title at the Wycombe and District Table Tennis League's annual closed championships before walking off with the mixed doubles title too.

But Baxter couldn't make it a hat-trick in the men's doubles, where he and clubmate Chris Haines were beaten 21-14, 21-19 by father and son team Nick and Robert Hansell.

In the men's singles final, Baxter met Den's John Cooper, who was also on familiar territory having won the prize himself on several previous occasions.

But Baxter's blistering array of forehands proved too much for Cooper and he defended his title in some comfort, winning 21-12, 21-13.

Baxter then teamed up with Mary Heffernan (Flackwell) to win the mixed doubles against Robert Hansell (Den) and Dawn Pearce (Apollo). The number one seeds ran out 22-20, 15-21, 21-17 winners.

The ladies singles was won by Apollo's Muriel Hooker. She had to come from one set down to beat defending champion Mary Heffernan 15-21, 21-19, 21-17.

Heffernan did manage to defend her veterans title, though, with a convincing 21-11, 21-12 win over Apollo's Jan Curtis.

Curtis got some revenge when she teamed up with clubmate Dawn Pearce in the ladies doubles to beat Heffernan and Kathy Dudley.

In the veteran men's singles Mike Atkinson won an all-Den final, beating last year's winner Nick Hansell 19-21, 21-14, 21-13.

Den dominated the Premier singles final too, Robert Hansell beating Mike Atkinson 12-21, 21-16, 21-19.

But Hansell's luck ran out in the handicap singles where Jim Welch of Chalfont won in straight sets.

The restricted singles final saw top seed Paul Savage (Allied Worldwide) win with ease. He overcame Kestrel's Nick Taylor 21-8, 21-9.

Other events saw Pete Collett (Apollo) win the over-60s singles against Jeanne Gloster of Phoenix.

Baz Mocharrafie ensured Hazlemere didn't go away empty-handed, winning the Division Three and Four singles against Brian Dudley of Harlequins.

Pete Collett of Apollo edged out Great Kingshill's Chris Hansell in the Division One and Two singles.

Allied Worldwide sponsored the event and the company's Margaret Plummer presented the trophies.
