AMERSHAM swimmers claimed 28 medals and two county record times on the third weekend of the Berks and South Bucks County Championships.

Jane Stalker, 15, won her second junior championship trophy, this time in the 400m individual medley, in a personal best time. She also took gold in the 16- year group and silver in the 100m backstroke.

Katie Towers, 12, claimed new county times and golds in both the 100m backstroke and 400m individual medley of her age group before adding a silver in the U17 100m backstroke.

Other golds went to Caroline Finnegan, Andrea Poore, Chloe Osborne and Oliver Jevremov.

A clean sweep saw Amersham fill the rostrum in the 11-year girls 50m breaststroke with Erin Ruxton (gold), Phoebe Cullingworth (silver) and Katie Ambridge (bronze).

Wycombe District swimmers took 13 gold, six silver and ten bronze medals at the county championships in Maidenhead last Saturday.

Speedy Simon Burnett broke the 11-year 400m freestyle county record by beating clubmate Tony Lewis with a time of 4.05.38. Lewis also beat the old record of 4.05.38 with 4.04.04.

Burnett also won the open 100m freestyle championship.

Alex Vine , 15, had another most successful day winning the junior and 16 years titles in the 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle.

Other golds went to Francesca Wright, Thomas Hearn and Charles Baird.
