WHILE most of High Wycombe will have one semi-final on their minds on Sunday, Wycombe Rugby Club will have their minds on another semi-final clash altogether.

Because while Wycombe Wanderers will be battling with Liverpool at Villa Park in the last four of the FA Cup, Wycs will be scrapping it out with North Bucks rivals Aylesbury in the semi-final of the Bucks Cup.

And like Wanderers, Wycs have reached their semi against the odds.

The rugby outfit have had a disastrous season in the league, even being relegated before the end of the South West Two campaign.

After last weekend's final match of the season against Abbey, which Wycs lost 38-11, the strugglers finished bottom of the table with just four points from 22 matches and one win to their name.

But Wycs now have an unlikely silver-lining at the end of their season with their unexpected success in the Bucks Cup.

And coach Ross MacKerron wants to make the most of it.

He told the BFP: "Despite a disappointing season, morale is high. We're determined to beat Aylesbury and salvage some club pride.

"Sunday's game is the first step on our road to recovery. No matter what happens, the club is going to return to its glory days."

In the early nineties, Wycombe were regular winners of the Bucks Cup, but their slide down the leagues towards the end of the decade coincided with poor results in the county cup as well.

Despite the fact that Sunday's match clashes with Wanderers' big game, Wycs have almost a full side to chose from. Only Alistair Foyle, who has a ticket to the Wanderers match, will miss out.

The club are already looking for new players for next season to re-build.
