AUTHORITIES are considering joining together to bring in traffic measures to improve safety for pedestrians.

Members of Princes Risborough Town Centre Forum have been trying to move the exit of the Mount car park next to the entrance.

They believe it is dangerous for pedestrians to exit at the same place as cars in order to cross Stratton Road into Wades Park.

Member of the forum John Coombs said: "It is an accident waiting to happen."

But the original proposal was blocked by the highways department of Buckinghamshire County Council, who advised that drivers would not be able to exit the car park safely from a different exit point.

A speed table has been discussed which would make cars slow down, allowing drivers to exit safely from the Mount car park but funding for the scheme could not come from the Area Safety Schemes Budget as there have been no reported accidents in the last three years.

The county council is to ask Wycombe District Council and Princes Risborough Town Council to participate in a Partnership Funding Scheme which will encompass traffic calming in Stratton Road, relocation of the exit to the Mount car Park and provision of a crossing point.

This means funding for the scheme could come from a different budget, enabling the resiting of the exit to go ahead.
