THE procession route for this year's Wycombe Carnival, on May 9, is causing a "headache" for organisers.

The carnival is now in its 12th year and over recent years the parade has started from the Safeways car park in Temple End before making its way along Hughenden Road towards the arena on The Rye.

Bill Potts, Wycombe Carnival press and publicity officer, said: "As the plans for the carnival are being finalised the main headache confronting the organising committee is the route this year's procession will take."

The programme of events is being drawn up but there is still some confusion caused by the plans for pending roadworks.

Jim Tanner, carnival committee chairman, said: "Although most of the arena events are now tied up, we are still studying the route which is subject to a number of road closures.

"The programmes are finalised but I am sure that, with a little co-operation from all concerned, we will soon have everything ironed out."

One of the highlights at this year's show will be a dramatic rescue demonstration by the emergency services and for animal lovers there will be a Rockwood Dog Display Team putting their best paw forward.

The glamour of the Wild West will be brought to life with the Arizona Cowboys and visitors will have a musical treat with the Caribbean Sunrise Steel Band.

High Wycombe mayor Mahboob Hussain, who is trying to raise £50,000 for the Cardiac Unit at Wycombe Hospital, has been approached to be guest of honour.
