PUPILS at a combined school are beating national standards, according to a report by Ofsted inspectors.
West Wycombe Combined School, West Wycombe Hill Road, High Wycombe, was found to have pupils two terms ahead of the national average in English and maths by the end of key stage two.
They were also regularly found to be one term ahead in science and are expected to raise standards even further.
The report found some of the literacy and numeracy teaching outstanding and the teachers' sense of humour and ability to build on previous learning ensures pupils reach full potential.
Pupils with special needs were well-catered for and made good progress towards their targets and all the pupils entered into school life with great enthusiasm.
Michael Cusden, head of the school, said: "Such a positive report is most gratifying, especially the recognition of good quality teaching in the core subjects. I am very pleased for everyone, teachers, parents, governors, and of course, the pupils all of whom work unceasingly to make West Wycombe a good place to be."
