EDWIN Sandy stabbed his flatmate's teddy bear with a pair of scissors and then told her she would be next, a court heard.

The furious 22-year-old, of Conningsby Road, High Wycombe, cut off the bear's fur and dragged Grace Wanjohi on to a bed and said they were going 'to make good times.'

Sandy was jailed for three years at Reading Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to false imprisonment and assaulting two police officers.

The court heard details of the dramatic two-hour imprisonment when Sandy had a row with his landlord before bursting in on his flatmate, stabbing her teddy bear and saying "that's going to be you in the next few minutes."

Miss Wanjohi finally made her escape and called the police when Sandy got hungry and made her go out to buy rice.

Sandy punched and bit two police officers who had to use CS spray to overpower and arrest him.

The court heard Sandy was a Sierra Leone national who has asylum in the UK and had lived with his aunt and uncle since the death of his parents in the war-torn African country.

Giles Curtis-Raleigh, prosecuting, said the events unfolded on August 8, last year when the landlord turned the electricity off after a dispute with Sandy over rent at the shared house in Russell Street, Reading.

Mr Curtis-Raleigh said that this was when Sandy went into a blind rage.

Isobel Ascherson, defending, said both the landlord and Miss Wanjohi told the police that the rage was completely out of character.

Sentencing, Judge Josh Lait told Sandy that the attack was absolutely terrifying for Miss Wanjohi.

He said: "You conveyed threats of sexual intercourse with her and made threats to kill her. She was terrified."

Sandy was sentenced to 30 months for the false imprisonment charge and an additional six months for attacking the police officers.
