A GRANDFATHER who is recovering from bowel cancer has praised hospital staff and procedures after he was given treatment he says was first class.

Bill Rushworth, 62, of Cores End Road, Bourne End, was referred by his GP to hospital on December 19.

By the end of January 24, Mr Rushworth had had his operation and was recovering in Ward 1A of Wycombe Hospital, having had a large tumor removed from his bowel.

Mr Rushworth, who is a freelance writer, said: "I just want to let people know the way I was dealt with.

"There was pain but it was very well controlled.

"I was treated with dignity throughout. The part I was in was very clean, very well run, and the communication was good. Nobody talked to me like an idiot.

"It was attention to every detail. There was no sloppiness."

Mr Rushworth praised the efforts of his surgeon Mr Sandy McPherson, and the registrar Dr Patrick Lintott.

He said of Dr Lintott: "He was optimistic without making a lot of predictions that he couldn't be sure of at the time. At each stage he came along and told me clearly what he had found."

Mr Rushworth also praised Dr Alistair McIntyre, the gastro-enterologist, who he said found him a bed the day after he first saw him.

He said: "What they did for me was first class. Speed with these things is of the essence."

A spokesman for South Buckinghamshire NHS Trust said: "We are always grateful for this sort of positive feedback."
