THE PRIME Minister's wife Cherie Booth QC has congratulated King's Wood Infant School on its 50th birthday.

The school, in Totteridge Lane, High Wycombe, was opened half a century ago by the wife of a former PM, Clement Attlee, so the school decided to invite Mrs Blair to their celebrations.

She was unable to make the party but said: "King's Wood Infant School has long been a central part of the community in and around Totteridge, and I know that it will continue to play a full role in supporting the families who live there."

Former pupils and friends marked its half-century on January 22 with an all-day party.

The event, which took place at the school, was marked by opening of a new computer suite, a memorabilia exhibition, and a song by the present pupils called Sing a Song of King's Wood, which was composed by former mayor Frances Alexander's husband Eric.

Barbara Fletcher, acting headteacher, said: "The day went very well and we all had a lovely day. The children had a bouncy castle and games in the morning and there was a more formal celebration in the afternoon. There were lots of ex-pupils, teachers and friends of the school."
