OLD memories have been stirred up after former sergeant Reuben Stretton attempted to find his former colleagues.

Mr Stretton, from Western Australia, who used to live in Totteridge, High Wycombe, wrote to the Bucks Free Press after seeing an article about the St John Ambulance 80th birthday which appeared in September 1999.

Mr Stretton was looking for anyone who used to know him but more specifically Mr Smith, Philip Constable, Mr Watts, Bill Lunnon and a man called Colin Haynes.

Ray Smith, of Havenfield Road, Booker, High Wycombe, read the article and said: "He was an old school chum and ambulance colleague and I would very much like to get in contact with him."

The son of Bill Lunnon also read the article and got in contact.

Raymond Lunnon said: "Reuben was a St John Cadet in the High Wycombe Ambulance Cadet Division before the Second World War when my father, who he mentioned, was Cadet Superintendent."

Cyril Grace, of Cambridge Crescent, Totteridge, was another person taking a trip down memory lane when he saw the article.

All the old friends will hopefully be getting in contact with each other soon.

If anybody would like to get in contact with Mr Stretton, send contact details to Kelly Clayton, Bucks Free Press, Gomm Road, High Wycombe, Bucks HP13 7DW or e-mail her.
