POST Office bosses are being pressed to urgently search for a new sub-post office in Bledlow Ridge.

MP for Aylesbury David Lidington, whose constituency includes Bledlow Ridge, urged Post Office management to find new sub-post office premises.

The present sub-post office, in Chinnor Road, is due to close on Wednesday when postmistress Anne Bailey retires after 12 years in charge.

Mr Lidington said: "The Post Office has told me they will not be allowed to use the Chinnor Road premises in future.

"I have urged them to move as quickly as possible to find an alternative outlet in the village."

He added: "The closure will cause real difficulties for people without cars in Bledlow Ridge. They face having to get to Stokenchurch or West Wycombe to find a post office."

Mr Lidington said the Post Office has had approaches from people who are interested in opening a new sub-post office in the village.

But Bledlow-cum-Saunderton parish councillors have said it is unlikely a new owner will be found.
