A VILLAGE youth club is being formed in a bid to stem rising levels of vandalism in a quiet community.

The new £3,000 club is a joint initiative between Seer Green Parish Council and Buckinghamshire County Council.

The plans initially ran into problems after Seer Green Baptist Church refused the youngsters permission to use their hall, but a new venue for the club was unveiled at a parish council meeting last Wednesday.

Speaking at the meeting was Joseph Poon, the Chiltern and District Area Manager for Youth and Community Services.

He said the new club would be held in the Jubilee Hall and there would be two youth workers who would be helped by volunteers.

The project has been granted funding by Seer Green Parish Council to cover the costs of hiring the youth workers and buying small amounts of new equipment that will be needed.

Anil Mitra, vice-chairman of Seer Green Parish Council said: "The young people in this village have nowhere to go as we are quite isolated here.

"There is no community centre or facilities for them and they have been disgruntled.

"We have found them congregating at street corners and at the pavilion and police reports have said that young people are doing vandalism in the village.

"We thought we could solve this in a positive way and form a youth club to give them some responsibility and keep them occupied."

Mr Poon said the club would be offering a variety of activities for the youngsters including photography and trips to other youth clubs and venues at least once a month.

A youth worker from the county council will attend the next parish council meeting in the parish hall on April 4 to discuss the implementation of the project. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
