THE UK Independence Party Chesham and Amersham Constituency Association selected Ian Harvey as its Prospective Parliamentary Candidate at its recent annual general meeting.

Mr Harvey, 61, from Polidoris Lane, Holmer Green, said he is not a career politician and aims to be honest with the public.

He said: "The ability to spin is only a useful attribute to a politician who wants to hide the truth, and when, as is the case with the current government, the public recognise the deceit, it ceases to be useful. It becomes a liability.

"The United Kingdom Independence Party are not in the business of hiding the truth. On the contrary we want to tell it."

Mr Harvey married Patricia in 1963 and they have lived in the constituency since 1968.

They have two children, who have been raised and educated in Holmer Green. Son Stuart is in the Metropolitan Police and daughter Sarah qualified as a teacher and is now acting.

Mr Harvey trained in print and graphic design and began his career in advertising in 1960. In 1972, together with a partner, he started a specialist printing company which ran successfully for 14 years.

The company was sold in 1986 and he has been self-employed since, although working towards retirement.
