THAME United Football Club will today spend £600 on a scan for injured striker Wayne Cort.

The first division pacesetters, who have seen their 13-point lead cut to three points by Bedford, have decided to shell out in a bid to get their striker back as quickly as possible.

He has been suffering with a knee injury and United want the scan so they can establish the best way to treat it and speed up his return.

Manager Andy Sinnott said: "We're not quite sure what we are dealing with so we're going to bite the bullet and find out. We need him back and we want to get his injury sorted."

United needed a late equaliser from their talisman Mark West to salvage a point from a 1-1 draw at Bognor last Saturday, while Bedford stuffed Northwood 6-1.

Now United have two big home games - against fellow promotion hopefuls Ford on Saturday, and local rivals Aylesbury on Tuesday to re-establish their championship credentials.

Sinnott said: "We've been leading the table since August and Bedford have now used up their games in hand to catch us up. I want to finish top of the pile and win the championship and if we could take six points from these two games it would go a long way to helping."

Thame have injury problems going into their double-header at the Windmill Stadium. Justin Merritt had to come off at Bognor with a groin strain and Andy Williams is nursing an ankle injury, although Sinnott is hoping he will come through.
